A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO BALANCED HEALTH...

Facetune_14-01-2026-12-52-20.HEIC

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on manual therapy used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

It recognises the significant relationship between the structure of the body and the way it functions as a whole- treating the entire body, not just the symptomatic area.

Osteopaths work with muscles, joints, ligaments, and connective tissues, aiming to restore balance, mobility, and optimal function. The goal is not only to relieve symptoms, but to identify and address the underlying cause to help prevent recurrence.

Dr Joelina Jowett (née Saldaneri) has worked as a qualified Osteopath in private practice for over 19 years. She graduated from RMIT University with a five-year double degree in Osteopathy with Distinction, placing in the top 15% of all RMIT graduates in 2006.

With a wide variety of treatment methods, Joelina treats a broad range of conditions and particularly enjoys working with neck and upper back pain, jaw dysfunction, and headaches. She has also completed advanced training in Dry Needling and Cupping, which she has found to be highly effective when combined with osteopathic treatment for appropriate patients.

Joelina treats patients of all ages and has a particular interest in female health, pregnancy, and post-natal musculoskeletal care. She has undertaken further studies in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the osteopathy field.

In addition to her osteopathic training, Joelina has completed

Level 1 Spinal Energetics training (50+ hours of study and practical training). This work has further deepened her understanding of the nervous system and how the body responds when it feels supported, regulated, and safe.

Spinal Energetics is offered as a separate modality from Osteopathy.

Joelina is a registered member of AHPRA and Osteopathy Australia.

WHAT TO EXPECT
WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling (Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling) uses fine, pre-sterilized, disposable needles for the therapy of muscle pain and tightness.

Dry needling can be used to deactivate trigger points, treat overactive motor points in the muscles, as well as strengthening tendons and ligaments.

Dry needling also helps increasing blood flow which helps treat chronic muscle tension and spasm, delivering oxygen and other nutrients to the affected/painful tissues and also removes harmful metabolic waste on a cellular level.

It also has a strong effect on pain control by releasing certain neurotransmitters from the brain.

It doesn't cost any extra to have Dry Needling as part of your Osteopathic treatment, so if it hasn't already been offered to you and you're interested to try it - please ask!

On your Initial Treatment at Seaford Osteopathy, a full case history and thorough medical history will be taken by your Osteopath.

Please bring along any relevant x-ray/scan reports, and comfortable/appropriate clothes or undergarmets depending on the area needing treatment.

After a full osteopathic examination & assessment of your posture and movement, your Osteopath will use a variety of therapeutic techniques such as massage, mobilisation, safe joint manipulation (with your consent) and stretching, each treatment being tailored to the individual.

Osteopathy takes a holistic approach to treatment, so your practitioner may look at other parts of your body, as well as the area that is troubling you. For example, if you present with a knee complaint, your osteopath may also look at your feet, pelvis and low back.

Exercises and stretches are usually prescribed, and postural / lifestyle suggestions may also be given to address external factors that may be contributing to the problem, and to prevent the issue from reoccurring.
